BALLET:

COMBO BALLET/TAP  with Rebecca       

for students 4.5 - 5.5 years old                  

This Ballet/Tap Combo Class is a great introductory for young dancers, wishing to learn the basic fundamentals of both Ballet and Tap in a fun and interactive environment. Students will learn basic technique and vocabulary, while enhancing musical awareness and developing coordination.

BALLET I  with Loretta

for students 6  years old & up  

This introductory class begins with exercises at the barre to warm, stretch and strengthen muscles, practice proper body placement, and build technique. Center work follows, beginning with Adagio (slow, sustained exercises to develop balance, strength and fluidity), Petite Allegro (small, quick jumps and beats that build speed and precision), before progressing to Grande Allegro (large traveling steps, turns, and leaps). 

                                                                                      

BALLET II   with Loretta

This introductory to intermediate ballet class enhances the student's understanding of the fundamental concepts of classical ballet. Classes will focus on terminology, proper hip alignment, turn out of the hips, legs and feet, upper body posture, carriage of the arms, combinational execution, musicality, and graceful power. Students will practice these disciplines via barre, center and across the floor work. 


BALLET III   with Loretta

Upon mastery of the concepts introduced in Ballet II, this intermediate to advanced class places a continued focus on alignment and form, while increasing movement and vocabulary skills with an additional focus on the practical application of ballet in combinations. Attention is paid to the proper extension of the legs, developing movement sequences, port de bras, arabesques and balance. Students are presented with more challenging barre and center work, while beginning to focus on repetition and retention in order to fine-tune and master their technique.


POINTE  with Loretta

available only to students in Ballet IIIA skill that is exclusive to ballet. This class will include a pointe barre warm-up that focuses on proper alignment and strengthening of the legs and core muscles. As the class progresses the students will take to the center what they have learned at the barre. 


LEAPS & TURNS  with Valerie

Pre-requisite: Jazz II or Ballet II

Stretch, Turn, and Leap is a non-performance based class, focusing on specific techniques to enhance a dancer’s flexibility, ability to turn and leap, as well as strengthen the muscles needed to execute the movements properly. This class will emphasize the techniques introduced in ballet and jazz, including proper alignment and placement, in order to maintain a long career, as a performer. It is required that students study Ballet II - III, or Jazz II - III simultaneously.

JAZZ:

JAZZ I   with Rebecca

for students 6 years old & up

Through center warm-ups, across the floor and various combinations, set to a variety of fun, upbeat music, students will explore jazz, by learning fundamental steps and stylization.


JAZZ II   with Rebecca

This fun, high-energy class builds on the foundation set in Jazz I, placing a stronger focus on form, alignment, core strength, flexibility and physical conditioning at an intermediate level. Jazz II allows students to get up, move and have fun, all while learning more advanced rhythms and patterns. Students will improve their retention and coordination by learning musical theatre choreography of a conglomeration of jazz styles. 


JAZZ III   with Maxey

Jazz III requires the foundational skills established in JAZZ I and II. A prior understanding of technique, vocabulary and musicality will allow dancers in Jazz III to focus on their growth in these areas.  Dancers will be introduced to more advanced combinations across the floor and rhythmically challenging choreography to a variety of musical theatre and jazz songs. The class will include the necessary warm-up that will prepare the body for the specific demands of the class followed with combinations comprised of technique, breath, and quality of movement.


ELITE*    with Maxey

Elite Dance Troupe members must audition at the start of each academic school year. 


*students must also be registered at StarStruck in either Ballet III or Jazz III


The Elite level class is structured for the dancer interested in pursuing dance in their professional career. Combinations will explore varied styles of high-energy, athletic choreography with precision of technique and quality of movement. The utmost focus, attention and professionalism are expected of each Elite student.  The Elite level will allow each dancer to find their artistic voice; placing a high value on their individuality and confidence as a performer.

CONTEMPORARY:

CONTEMPORARY    with Valerie

Ages: 12+

Pre-requisite: Jazz II or Ballet II

Contemporary dance is a fusion of advanced jazz, modern and Ballet techniques that connects the dancer’s emotions with their movements. Pairing expressive and powerful choreography with powerful songs allows the dancers to express a story through dance. Each class begins with a thorough warm-up that focuses on strength, flexibility and improvisation. Class then allows for expressive movement through across the floor combinations, focusing on technique, turns and leaps. This class allows dancers to simply feel the moment, and let their bodies do the talking. A solid base of Ballet and Jazz technique are fundamental building blocks for Contemporary. It is required that students study Ballet II - III or Jazz II - III simultaneously.

TAP:

TAP I  with Rebecca

Through a series of center exercises and progressions across the floor students will learn fundamental tap technique and terminology, rhythm and musicality, as well as develop correct body placement.


TAP II  with Rebecca     

Audition required for placement in this class

Tap II is a fun, high energy class building on the skills learned in Tap I. This class is designed for students excited to expand their tap vocabulary and strengthen their rhythmic understanding.


TAP III   with Rebecca 

Audition required for placement in this class

Students in Tap III are introduced to more complex rhythms, dynamics and musicality, learning how to break down and combine rhythms while strengthening their footwork.


TAP IV   with Rebecca

Audition required for placement in this class

Dancers are challenged through intricate rhythms and footwork exercises. Focus is on clarity of sounds, understanding rhythms, increasing speed and developing style- all with a continued emphasis on proper technique and terminology. This class is designed for our most advanced tappers!


HIP HOP:

HIP HOP I  with Vickie

for students 5 - 10 years old

Students will learn the foundations of hip hop while applying coordination­ enhancing movements designed to strengthen brain­ to­ muscle communication ­all set to their favorite radio songs and Broadway hits! This class is a great way to introduce boys and girls to the dance movement world in a fun, high impact environment!


HIP HOP II   with Vickie

for students 11 - 18 years old  

Hip Hop II kicks it up a notch by applying advanced rhythms, body isolations, partnering tricks, complex foot work, and unique choreography to today’s hottest music hits! This is a great way to combine skills learned in other dance disciplines while getting high energy exercise and gaining confidence on the dance floor ­for school dances and the StarStruck stage!

ACRO:

ACRO  with Valerie     

for students 7 years old & up

The sport of acrobatics and tumbling is a fundamental skill set every performer/entertainer should experience. It is the basis for learning where your body is in space, and it benefits us in all areas of life including self-confidence, coordination, flexibility, strength, determination, and overall talent. In this class, Miss Valerie will combine her extensive background in gymnastics with her experience as a professional NBA dancer, to teach the students tumbling skills and their progressions along with incorporating fun short dances to entertain the masses. Some tumbling skills will include cartwheels, round offs, back walkovers, back handsprings, and round off back handsprings. Commercial Dance blends the highest quality of dance and theater training, preparing students for diverse careers on stage, television, film, and the entertainment industry.
